Mr Musk said the restructuring plans involve "flattening the management structure to improve communication", as well as trimming activities "not vital to the success of our mission".

More specifically, the total VINs filed by Tesla Motors for the Model 3 has now reached 42,942; with the addition of a new batch of 3,661 VINs filed by the company for the electric auto.

Tesla will start taking orders for new variants of its entry-level Model 3 beginning the end of this week, CEO Elon Musk said early May in a reply to a journalist's question on Twitter.

Matthew Schwall, who was the company's main technical contact with USA safety investigators as the Silicon Valley auto maker races to develop driverless-car technology, left the company for rival self-driving vehicle company Waymo LLC.

Mr Schwall was the electric carmaker's main technical contact with U.S. safety investigators.

Several troubles have hit Tesla recently, including the news that the company's Senior Vice President of Engineering, Doug Field, would be temporarily leaving.

Apart from this, the automaker has moved closer to setting up its first overseas auto plant by registering a company in Shanghai. We've got barnacles on barnacles.

Investors gave a rare rebuke to Musk after he cut off financial analysts on the earnings call, sending shares down 5 percent despite promises that Model 3 production was on track.

He complained to another that the questioning was "dry".

Tesla share value has gone down almost 0.70% as of 12:45 pm EDT on Monday and was hovering just below $300 United States dollars.

Field joined Tesla in 2013 after posts at Segway and Apple, and until April 2018 had been in charge of Model 3 production as well as overall vehicle engineering at Tesla.

"For unknown reasons, the Tesla failed to stop for the traffic at the red light and ran into the back of a United Fire Authority vehicle at 60 miles per hour", Sergeant Samuel Winkler told local news channel Fox 13 News.

The woman broke her right foot, Winkler said, while the truck driver was checked for whiplash but not hospitalized. According to witnesses interviewed by police, the the driver of the Tesla did not brake or take any action to avoid the collision. The police, however, are not sure if the Autopilot feature was in use at the time of the accident.

On Sunday, a spokesperson for the company said that Tesla had not received yet any information from the car's system, so it couldn't comment on the crash.
