Bill Gates: Trump asked me the difference between HIV and HPV

Bill Gates: Trump asked me the difference between HIV and HPV

The Microsoft founder was answering staff questions during a recent Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation meeting when he revealed the freaky anecdote.

He also noted that in that 2016 meeting, as well as in a subsequent one in March 2017, Trump threw out a question that actually threw Gates during a discussion about vaccines.

Though Trump's memory failed him when it came to identifying illnesses, according to Gates, the president knew a "scary" amount about the Microsoft founder's daughter Jennifer, 22, whom he had met once before.

Gates said he wasn't sure if Trump was serious or if he was just "being friendly", but he turned down the offer. Gates said that Trump left the event and made a big show of flying back to the same event in a helicopter 20 minutes later. "Melinda [Gates's wife] didn't like that too well", he added.

Gates also said that Trump asked him on multiple occasions "if there was a difference between HIV and HPV".

Jennifer Gates and her parents, Bill and Melinda Gates, listen to former U.S. President Barack Obama speak at the Gates Foundation Inaugural Goalkeepers event on September 20, 2017 in New York City. "So I was able to explain that those things are rarely confused with each other".

This wouldn't be the first time Gates spoke publicly about the content of that meeting, either.

"So clearly he had been driven away, but he wanted to make a grand entrance in a helicopter", Gates said, mimicking the flight path of Trump's helicopter with his hand, eliciting another round of laughs. There are vaccines for HPV but no known cure for HIV.

At the end of the clip, Gates couldn't resist poking a little fun at the president's habit of referring to himself in the third person. "He said, 'Trump hears that you don't like what Trump is doing.' And I thought, 'Wow, but you are Trump'".

It explains the human papilloma virus affects the skin and moist membranes and can cause problems such as verrucas, genital warts and abnormal cell changes in the cervix.

"I never met Donald Trump before he was elected".

"In both of those two meetings, he asked me if vaccines weren't a bad thing because he was considering a commission to look into ill-effects of vaccines and somebody - I think it was Robert Kennedy Jr - was advising him that vaccines were causing bad things".
