Surgeon General aided traveler with ‘medical emergency’ during flight

"Patient doing well and like a good #USPHS officer, I was glad to be able to assist!", Surgeon General Jerome M. Adams tweeted on Wednesday. Lauderdale, Florida to Jackson, Mississippi via Atlanta when a passenger lost consciousness on the tarmac prior to takeoff, a department of Health and Human Services spokesperson told 11Alive.

US surgeon general Dr. Jerome Adams helped during a medical emergency on his Delta Air Lines flight, Wednesday, to Jackson, Mississippi.

Dr. Jerome Adams, an anesthesiologist, said he assisted someone on a Delta Air Lines jet as he prepared to fly Wednesday to Jackson, Mississippi.

After tweeting about the incident, Adams added in a Facebook post that he was one of three medical professionals on board the flight who helped the patient.

Flight staff called for help, and Adams, along with two nurses, stepped in to help evaluate the passenger.

Adams was traveling to MS for a panel discussion on opioid abuse.

Adams, who has served as surgeon general since September of past year, is an anesthesiologist, according to his official biography.

The U.S. Surgeon General responded to a medical emergency onboard a Delta flight on Thursday.

Delta responded to Adams tweet, thanking him for his service: "Hello, Wow!"

This former Indiana State Health Commissioner was in the right place and the right time.
