Various new features and functions for macOS 10.14, iOS 12, watchOS 5 and tvOS 12 will be announced at WWDC, so that developers can tailor their upcoming creations to future versions of Apple's operating systems.

As a general rule, Apple devices get support for five years, so the likes of the iPhone 5S, iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 might be getting left behind.

Apple may finally loosen the leash on the NFC chips in its iPhones and Apple Watches in iOS 12.

Story, style makes the ride in 'Solo' too bumpy
As one of the most beloved characters in a galaxy far, far away, this origin story had a lot to accomplish. Ron Howard has several wins in his directorial kitty (including the simply superb Arrested Development ).

These features have been expected for months.

Apple is thinking about digital addiction after two shareholders of the company warned that excessive use of smartphones children can adversely affect their development and health. At the time, Apple said it was working on "new features and enhancements" to address the concerns, and in March it added a new webpage to educate parents about existing controls. The suite offers tools to monitor smartphone usage, and lets you know how many times you've unlocked your phone, how much time you've spent on specific apps, and more.

The past week in Apple's world was quiet, and there was good reason: Its next big event is right around the corner.

We're also running a WWDC live blog in real-time so you can keep up with our commentary on the event as it happens.

Rather than multiply the new features, Apple should work on the stability of its new OS by making it as fluid and functional as possible.

So far, the apps using augmented reality haven't really wowed. The iPhone SE 2 could launch later in the year with along with the new iPad Pro and MacBooks.
