Wonder Woman 2 receives a cryptic and exciting update

Warner Bros

Fans may recall that the initial "Wonder Woman" was set in 1917 amid World War I. This time, however, the film will be centered around the Cold War.

The logo reads "WW84", which possibly suggests the upcoming film will be set in 1984.

The sequel to DC's Wonder Woman isn't due for another year but a new update has potentially confirmed what year in history Diana Prince will find herself in. But on Friday, DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns took to Facebook to reveal the film's logo, while also sharing that Wonder Woman 2 will take place in 1984. After earning $821 million worldwide, it became the highest-grossing film of all time from a female filmmaker who acted as the sole director.

After the hugely successful first instalment released previous year, "Wonder Woman 2" will see the return of Gal Gadot in the titular role and newly minted Patty Jenkins in the directors chair.

Wonder Woman 2 will introduce the villain Cheetah, to be played by Saturday Night Live and The Skeleton Twins star Kristen Wiig.

It's always been rumored that the film will have a Cold War setting in the 1980s, but now we know it will be set specifically in 1984. Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) is also cast in a "pivotal role".

With DCEU's Wonder Woman Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins broke the glass ceiling.
