Mueller's team accuses Paul Manafort of witness tampering

U.S. President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, who has been indicted by U.S. special counsel Robert Mueller, attempted to tamper with potential witnesses, Mr. Mueller said in a court filing on Monday.

Prosecutors working for Mueller made the claim in a request that the judge overseeing the case revoke or revise an order for Manafort to be placed on pretrial release. The contacts occurred earlier this year, shortly after a grand jury returned a new indictment against Manafort and while he was confined to his home.

The witness told federal agents that Manafort and Person A were also trying to get the witnesses to tell members of the Hapsburg group that if they were contacted by anyone, they should say the group only performed lobbying and public relations work in Europe. He was indicted in Virginia on tax and bank fraud charges dating back to 2005 and 2007 and, in Washington, DC, on charges of failing to formally declare his lobbying efforts for the Ukrainian government between 2006 and 2015.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, Brock Domin, wrote in court documents that at least one witness reported Mr Manafort's contact and said he appeared to be trying to change their story about his lobbying practices.

Tested negative for Nipah, 36-year-old Kerala woman dies under observation
In another precautionary measure, all nine staff members at Balussery taluk hospital in Kozhikode district have been given leave. Besides, officials have asked those people who made contact with the two, who died due to Nipah, to get in touch with the cell.

Manafort has pleaded not guilty on all of the charges against him.

Manafort and an associate allegedly reached out to a pair of public relations people who were linked to an alleged conspiracy by Manafort and others to illegally lobby on behalf of Ukraine in the United States.

On February 26, Manafort is said to have sent a string of messages to one of his contacts. The witness said he hung up because he was "concerned" about the call, according to the affidavit.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation agent's declaration, the PR worker contacted by Manafort "told the government that [he] understood Manafort's messages to be an effort to "suborn perjury" by influencing [his] potential statements".

The witness told investigators that he interpreted Manafort's efforts to reach him as a way to influence his potential statements. "I have made clear that they worked in Europe".
