Rafael Nadal given quarter-final rain reprieve against Diego Schwartzman

Richard Gasquet 'Nadal has a different game his intensity is monstrous'

Rafael Nadal's grip on the French Open title was in danger of being loosened by the unlikely figure of Diego Schwartzman.

Nadal, 32, lost his opening service game and trailed 2-0 in the first set before recovering well in Paris.

Schwartzman, the 11th seed, was certainly playing out of his skin, but even that should have not been enough to trouble a Nadal playing anywhere near his peak.

The enforced interlude had clearly benefited Nadal, and assuming he gets the two points he needs to level the match he will start a strong favourite on Thursday.

The gritty Argentine went toe-to-toe with the world No. 1, breaking him three times and booking two set points. For Nadal, that happened when he was down a break at 3-2 in the second set, and the delay of a little less than an hour seemed to help him begin to change course against Schwartzman, a 1.7 metre Argentine who was putting almost every shot right where he wanted to in the early stages.

Three men shot at boxing club in Ireland
According to thejournal.ie , Taylor sustained injuries to his arm and chest and remains in a serious condition in St. One man is dead and two have been left seriously injured after a shooting at Bray Boxing Club, Ireland .

World number one Nadal, who made 14 unforced errors and struck just four winners in the opener, has only lost two French Open matches in his career.

The Spaniard, who won five straight games after a rain delay to beat Alexander Zverev in the Rome Masters final last month, managed three in a row this time before play was ended for the day.

Nadal's serve, and forehand, had seemingly deserted him as he was broken three times in the first set.

Rafa Nadal continued his birthday celebrations by moving into the French Open quarter-finals on Monday, beating a determined Maximilian Marterer 6-3 6-2 7-6 (4). And past year, he earned the trophy without dropping a set.

The Romanian broke serve six times against a player who made the semi-finals at the Australian Open in January.
