Arsenal sign Swiss captain Lichtsteiner from Juventus

Arsenal transfer news Unai Emery has been told to improve the club's defence this summer

Today, the club have announced that Switzerland star Stephan Lichsteiner will join the Arsenal squad as their first new player of 2018/19. "Stephan will improve us on and off the pitch".

Lichtsteiner has been a valuable member of the Swiss national side, and will also lead the country in the FIFA World Cup 2018. This right-back has chose to join the Gunners, but the deal will go through once the regulatory processes are completed.

Lichtsteiner started his career at Grasshopper Zurich, but soon moved to Ligue 1 to play for Lille in 2005.

Unai Emery has made his first signing as Arsenal manager and he's gone for experience in the shape of Stephan Lichtsteiner.

The 34-year-old himself spoke of his pride at joining the Gunners and took to social media to say how happy he is.

Lichtsteiner is a serial victor having won eight League Championships during his career in his native Switzerland and Italy. "I'm really positive that we will do great things".

"There is a project to come back in the Champions League", Lichtsteiner told official website.

"I am very honoured to get an opportunity to play for this legendary club, who have a unique history, a strong fan base and an incredible stadium".

The 46-year-old Emery previously spent three seasons with Sevilla leading them to an unprecedented three consecutive Europa League titles and establishing the club as a major force in the Spanish League.
