Sons of Anarchy's Alan O'Neill dead at 47

Although perhaps best known for his role in the popular motorcycle drama, O'Neill also starred in Irish soap Fair City and a string of United States films.

Irish actor Alan O'Neill, who appeared in hit United States show Sons of Anarchy, has died aged 47, according to reports.

The actor was found dead at an apartment in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, according to TMZ.

The publication also claimed the Sons of Anarchy star suffered from heart problems and was a heavy smoker.

He played Hugh, a former IRA member and gun runner, in Kurt Sutter's crime saga. Pending an autopsy, the actor's death is being investigated as a natural or accidental death.

Alan O'Neill is not the first Sons of Anarchy star in recent years to have passed away at a young age.

In addition to his "Sons of Anarchy" role, O'Neill played Keith McGrath on the TV series "Fair City".
