Mercedes Delay Upgrade due to Quality Issues

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen of Netherlands gets ready for the first practice session at the Formula One Canadian Grand Prix auto race in Montreal Friday

Valtteri Bottas insists Mercedes' last-minute decision to delay the introduction of a new spec power unit for this weekend is nothing more than a "small penalty" for the team's Canadian Grand Prix chances. Vettel has dropped nine while Kimi Raikkonen has dropped 27.

The Silver Arrows now lead both the drivers and constructors championships after six races. "And I think if I get a few more, I'll head-butt someone".

On one of Formula One's power circuits, that could prove a double whammy for championship leader Hamilton as he bids to match Michael Schumacher's mark of seven victories in Canada against rivals who will all be on upgraded power units.

Mercedes, closest rivals Ferrari and Red Bull have each won two races so far.

Asked about his driving style on Thursday after arriving in Montreal, he said, "I get really exhausted of all the questions".

"For me, this is a very exciting race".

"I'm still in a little bit of disbelief as I don't really understand what happened yet".

It was a rough day for Renault, which saw Nico Hulkenberg fail to post a flying lap in the first session because of a gearbox problem and then run 14th in the afternoon.

Sauber and Williams will continue to linger towards the back but have shown they can get drivers on the fringes of the top 10 when running well.

Canadian Lance Stroll, in the other Williams, caught the Wall of Champions in the morning and punctured a tire.

The double World Champion can count himself among the Canadian Grand Prix winners, however, it has been four years since last he even scored a point in Montreal.

Stroll stepped up to Formula 1 with Williams a year ago to become the first Canadian on the grid since Jacques Villeneuve departed the scene mid-2006.

The racing division of the famous Italian vehicle company, Ferrari, was ridiculed online Tuesday after it tweeted about this weekend's upcoming Formula One race in Montreal using an image of downtown Toronto.

Montreal has also seen of the craziest races in recent history from Hamilton's first win in 2007 to Robert Kubica coming back from a massive crash that year to claim his first F1 win for BMW 12 months later.

"It's a great track and a real test for the driver and the auto".
