"We're gonna fix that situation, and if it's not fixed, we're not going to deal with these countries".

Earlier in Ottawa on Thursday, Trudeau offered Trump some qualified kudos on his North Korea peace efforts, along with Macron and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe.

The top Nafta negotiators from the USA and Canada met earlier during the summit, after Trump in the morning complained about what he called unfair trading.

For weeks, tensions have been bubbling over an escalating trade battle fueled by the US's imposing tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum from Canada and the European Union. "I may have had a much different attitude", Trump said. You know Obama can say all he wants, but he allowed Russian Federation to take Crimea. We have a tremendous trade imbalance. "With that being said I think we'll probably easily make a deal".

Trump called the summit a "one time shot" for Kim, but expressed optimism at the beginning of talks with the North Korean regime.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Saturday that all members of the Group of Seven had signed on to a joint statement, ending speculation that the United States could be excluded from such a communique.

The tensions surrounding the tariffs underscore what appears to be a growing distance between the US and its allies over Trump's isolationist policies, including his decisions to withdraw from the Paris climate accord in 2017 and the Iran nuclear deal in May.

"We're either going to have NAFTA in a better negotiated form or we're going to have two deals", the USA president said. But short of that, he also pledged the US would raise its own trade barriers to combat unfair trade practices around the world.

Talks to modernize NAFTA, which started last August, have effectively stalled as Canada and Mexico resist USA demands for major changes such as the sunset clause and boosting the North American content of autos made in the three nations.

In his tweetstorm - and again on Saturday - the President said that such actions were hurting US farmers and "killing our agriculture".

Trump left the summit on Saturday before it discussed climate change and the health of oceans.

New survey shows 42% of people in the North want united Ireland
Some politicians say any return of border controls could disrupt a peace agreement to reduce sectarian conflict in the north. But Mr Barnier said the proposal raised a number of relevant and hard issues.

"He's happy", said Trump, to laughter.

President Trump's public comments Saturday morning reflected his aggressive approach with world leaders Friday night.

Trudeau refused and NAFTA talks stalled. But the lead ministers from both countries talked trade on the sidelines of the G7 leaders' meeting on Friday.

He said he "came up with the term fake news" because much of the U.S. press "is very dishonest".

Merkel said there was a broad agreement among G7 leaders that tariffs and other trade barriers should be reduced.

"If a deal isn't made, that would be a very bad thing for Canada and a very bad thing for Mexico".

"And so began a long litany of recriminations, somewhat bitter reports that the United States was treated unfairly, that the trading system was totally unfavourable to the United States, the American economy, American workers, the middle class".

"So, if I can get the president to actually realize that what he's doing is counterproductive for his own goals as well, then perhaps we can move forward in a smarter way".

"Let's say Canada, where we have tremendous tariffs".

Still, the United States and European Union will establish a dialogue on trade within the next two weeks, signalling a modest step forward for the bitterly divided allies of the G7. "As an example, 270 per cent, nobody knows that".
