China accused of hacking, stealing US Navy plans

Reports say Chinese govt-backed hackers stole US Navy data

The Washington Post cites unnamed USA officials, saying the breaches took place in January and February.

However, he refused to discuss any other details specifically related to the incident.

Security professionals have long observed Chinese spies conducting cyberattacks against USA defense contractors in order to spy on military capabilities.

The contractor was not identified in the article, but the Post reported it worked for the Naval Undersea Warfare Centre, which has its headquarters in Rhode Island.

Though the unnamed US officials, who reported the breach to The Post, did not reveal details of the contractor and said the data was hosted on an unclassified network, they stressed that when compiled, such a massive trove can be considered highly sensitive.

The Post "agreed to withhold certain details about the compromised missile project at the request of the Navy, which argued that their release could harm national security".

The data itself was stored on an unclassified network, but the officials who talked to the Post said that when all of the data that was stolen was put together the result would be considered classified.

The game's creative directors said in a video that the game represents the "first steps" into the world of Life is unusual 2. Well, it stars a 10-year-old named Chris who's obsessed with superheroes.

The lack of control of the US Navy over its contractors should raise concerns, media outlet cautioned.

The Pentagon last month pulled the US Navy's invitation for China to join Rim of the Pacific Exercise because of Beijing's "continued militarization" of the South China Sea, where Taiwan also has claims. The hackers reportedly went after a contractor within the Naval Undersea Warfare Center.

The introduction of a supersonic anti-ship missile on U.S. Navy submarines would make it more hard for Chinese warships to maneuver.

The Navy is reportedly investigating the breach with help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Sea Dragon is a $300 million project scheduled for underwater testing in September.

"We treat the broader issue of cyber intrusion against our contractors very seriously", Speaks told Fox News.

The US and China have a long history of going back and forth on innovations and trade secrets.

Investigators told the newspaper that breaches were executed in January and February by a division of the Chinese Ministry of State Security, operating out of the Chinese province of Guangdong.
