North Korean leader, Singapore’s PM discuss Korean Peninsula situation

The Singapore government offered itself as a neutral site for the first-ever meeting between a sitting United States president and a North Korean leader.

Authorities imposed tight security around the summit venue and related luxury hotels - including installing extra pot plants outside Kim's expected accommodation to obstruct reporters' views.

Singapore knows how to handle events like this, however historic they may be.

Trump went from one global leadership summit to another this weekend, leaving the G-7 conference in Canada to fly to Singapore.

"Everything that we see, say and do is based on observable, testable, referential behavior", he told FOX Business' Maria Bartiromo on "Mornings with Maria" on Monday.

The relative speed with which the state media got the news of Kim's arrival in Singapore out to the North Korean public suggests a certain level of confidence that the meeting will go well - or at least well enough.

So how should Trump communicate with Kim?

Lee Hye-ji, a 31-year-old housewife, was "hopeful" about the Trump-Kim meeting, adding she was less interested in denuclearisation than a declaration that the Korean War was over, 65 years after hostilities stopped with a ceasefire rather than a peace treaty. CBS News uploaded a video showing Kim walking through the city with his security detail. Two other aircrafts, one carrying several "essential" items for Kim such as a bullet-proof limousine and portable toilet, also departed within the same hour as the one carrying Kim.

White House officials have said Rodman will play no official role in the diplomatic negotiations.

USA and North Korean officials have been holding preliminary meetings in the run-up to the Tuesday summit. Oh, and North Korea poses a much greater potential threat because of its successful nuclear and missile tests past year. It heralded the summit as part of a "changed era". Trump and Kim planned to meet one-on-one for most of an hour- joined only by translators. The official wasn't authorized to discuss the plans and insisted on anonymity.

Congress should abolish farm and green energy subsidies, and repeal the "buy American" rules on federal projects. The truth is a bit more complicated , but Democrats have used tactics to stall some of Trump's selections.

He would not say whether that included the possibility of withdrawing US troops from the Korean Peninsula, but said the context of the discussions was "radically different than ever before".

"I can only say this, " Pompeo said.

Sanctions on North Korea would remain in place until that had happened, Pompeo said.

Pyongyang has taken some steps to show sincerity, returning USA detainees and blowing up its nuclear test site.

Mr. Trump has made clear that his goal is denuclearization. The meetings also served as an ice breaker of sorts as the teams worked to get better acquainted after decades of minimal U.S.

He also shared a photo of himself and Trump and told the entire world that he's "honored" to call the president a friend.

Trump, too, has recently sought to minimize expectations, saying additional meetings may be necessary. "Given the history of the way KCNA has reported, I think that is a sign for optimism".

In part, these lowered expectations are a reflection of the extreme skepticism among many that the North can be persuaded to give up a nuclear programme it has stubbornly built over the decades, often in secrecy and despite intense sanctions, worldwide condemnation and widespread suffering among its people. Trump initially touted the potential for a grand bargain with North Korea to rid itself of a nuclear missile programme that has advanced rapidly to threaten the United States.

If things fall apart, it could be because "Trump presents Kim with a hard-and-fast binary choice: relinquish nuclear weapons and live in peace and prosperity, or cling to them and risk the impoverishment of your people and the safety of your regime", Haas said.

"It's unknown territory in the truest sense but I really feel confident", Trump said.
