Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Savannah Phillips at Beaufort Polo Club

Kate Middleton comforting Princess Charlotte

Prince George was at the centre of a Twitter storm after the three-year-old was pictured playing with a toy gun.

Of course Princess Charlotte stole the show as she made a decision to do a headstand in the grass, leaving her mum giggling.

However, there was one element of the Sunday summer scene which seemed out of place: Prince George, 4, was spotted wielding a rather realistic toy gun.

We're used to seeing Kate Middleton in polished ensembles for royal events, but over the weekend, the Duchess of Cambridge proved she can also nail casual weekend style.

But when Prince George tried to join in, he was quickly silenced by Savannah, who put her hand over the third in line to the throne's mouth. The pictures appear to show the boys pointing the guns at other members of the party.

Prince Louis, who was born in April, was not with his older siblings at the polo match.

Kate also got in on the fun, as she had a go on Prince George's rainbow slinky and was also in fits of giggles as Charlotte attempted (and adorably failed) at her gymnastics.

Princess Charlotte performed gymnastics barefoot during the polo match.

"Spending quality time together is such an important aspect of family life and for me, as a mother, it is the simple family moments like playing outside together that I cherish". The royal kids cheered on their father alongside their mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton, on Sunday, following the Trooping the Colour festivities for their grandmother the Queen the day before.

The family was out after melting hearts at the Queen's Trooping the Colour birthday celebrations.
