Three Civilians Dead after Missile Fired by Houthi Targets Saudi Jazan

3 Reported Killed in Missile Attack in Saudi Arabia

Workers inspect damage at the site of an air strike on the maintenance hub at the Hodeida port, Yemen May 27, 2018.

Clashes continue to escalate a few short miles from the major Yemeni aid port of al-Hodeidah, as Saudi-backed attackers continue to advance up the coast toward the city of 600,000 people, fighting the Shi'ite Houthi rebels.

Hudaida lies some 230km away from the capital, Sanaa, which is controlled by the Houthis.

Malki also commented on the Houthis' launch of four ballistic missiles towards Saudi Arabia during the past two months, adding that one of these missiles fell in Yemen.

The United Nations pulled all of its worldwide staff out of Hodeida early Monday morning.

The council met behind closed doors to hear United Nations envoy Martin Griffiths report on his diplomatic efforts to keep the rebel-held port of Hodeidah open to shipments of aid and commercial goods.

The Western diplomat said there were "a couple of last ditch attempts" to try to see whether there were any options to de-escalate, including a plan to "see some sort of a temporary ceasefire", but that would involve the Houthis putting their weapons down or potentially even moving out of the port.

Hurricane Bud strengthens to category 3 off Mexico Pacific coast
However, only one of these "A" hurricanes has reached Category 5 intensity, Hurricane Ava in June 1973, according to NOAA. With maximum sustained winds of 120 miles per hour, Bud was moving northwest at about 7 miles per hour, the centre said.

Yemen relies on imports for 90 percent of its food and 70% of those transit through Hodeida, Lowcock said.

Concerning the humanitarian operations, he said that all 22 air, sea and land relief inlets are still working at their full capacity to allow the entry of the necessary items as well as the relief items of the United Nations and other worldwide organisations. "It is essential for him to be given the time that he needs to facilitate a negotiated solution that avoids conflict in the city and we support his efforts to do so".

The U.N. chose to evacuate its staff after member states were told that an attack was imminent, the New York Times reported.

Russian U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia, the current council president, said discussions centered on "the need for de-escalation".

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he had spoken with Emirati leaders and urged them to work with the United Nations but his statement fell short of warning the coalition against launching an all-out offensive.

He sad that USA officials had "spoken with Emirati leaders and made clear our desire to address their security concerns while preserving the free flow of humanitarian aid and life-saving commercial imports".
