Trump Kim summit: United States president lauds deal despite scepticism

The Foreign Minister said it was too early to say if the Trump Kim meeting could be deemed a success “but at least it’s a serious start”

A quick answer: Probably not.

Trump, who returned to Washington early on Wednesday, hailed the meeting with Kim, the first between a sitting us president and a North Korean leader, as a success that had removed the North Korean nuclear threat.

He toughened up global sanctions to further isolate North Korea and then agreed to meet directly with Kim after South Korea's president convinced him that the North was committed to giving up its nuclear weapons. Trump has drawn bipartisan criticism at home for agreeing to pause joint U.S.

Pyongyang in return "commits to work toward complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula". "History is a record of people who take action and rise to a challenge", he said.

When asked whether Trump was jumping the gun by declaring victory, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told reporters: "This president wants North Korea to completely denuclearize so obviously that has to be complete, verifiable and irreversible". He said the North Korean leader understands that "there will be in-depth verification" in any deal with the U.S. He met for almost an hour at the air base with Gen. Vincent Brooks, commander of U.S. Forces Korea, before heading by motorcade to Seoul. Still, others might say let's wait until there's an actual peace deal before we start doling out the accolades.

The president's suspension of the exercises came as U.S. Forces-Korea, led by Army Gen. Vincent Brooks, is preparing for the annual Ulchi-Freedom Guardian exercises later this summer with the South Koreans.

Most of all, I think they feel relief - relief they would not have felt, and certainly not to the same degree, if the Democrats hadn't drummed up hysteria about an impending war with North Korea.

Shi Yinhong, an worldwide relations expert at People's University in Beijing, said Trump's pledge to halt military maneuvers is, from China's perspective, nearly "too good to be true".

The U.S. has stationed combat troops in South Korea since the end of the Korean War in the 1950s and has used them in a variety of drills. He said cancellation of the drills "is really a bad idea ... and (Trump) betrayed our people".

While on stage, Todd Howard mentioned that the map in Fallout 76 is four times larger than the map featured in Fallout 4 . The team behind it is obviously proud of it, and when Bethesda are proud of something, we know it's going to be great.

That would go against what the Trump administration has said so far.

To some commentators, Trump's choice of language was a major problem. During the last 9 years, the channel has won over 197 awards and accolades at the prestigious Asian Television Awards, Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards, Indian Television Academy Awards, News Television Awards and Indian Telly Awards, making it India's Most Awarded English News Channel.

North Korea's media is tightly controlled by the government and only ever reports positively on officials' activities. But he kept trying to reach out to North Korea, and eventually found a role as a mediator after Kim offered in January to send a delegation to the South Korean Winter Olympics. Moon held talks with Kim in April at which Kim agreed to work toward "complete denuclearization".

Trump spun the concession as a money-saving decision, as well as a goodwill gesture to Kim.

Trump also praised himself for backing a woman who won a Republican primary Tuesday in SC, defeating a Trump critic.

Analyst Hong Min at Seoul's Korea Institute for National Unification said critics of the joint statement signed by Trump and Kim are missing a bigger point. "Denuclearisation was just an appendage", he said.

In one photo on the front page, Trump was featured gesturing the way forward for Kim Jong Un, while four of the eight photos on the front page featured them shaking hands. In his media briefing in Singapore on Tuesday, Trump mentioned ending the drills, which he described - in language similar to that used by North Korea - as "provocative", saying it would save the the USA money.

80,000 to 120,000 political prisoners are held in North Korean prisons, according to a United Nations commission of inquiry, which found that the regime's crimes included "extermination, murder, enslavement, torture, imprisonment, rape, forced abortions and other sexual violence, persecution on political, religious, racial and gender grounds, the forcible transfer of populations, the enforced disappearance of persons and the inhumane act of knowingly causing prolonged starvation".

"There is no limit to what NoKo can achieve when it gives up its nuclear weapons and embraces commerce & engagement w/ the world".
