2,000 Families Separated After Being Caught Crossing Border Illegally

President Trump continued to blame Democrats.

What happens to the children?

.

The Trump Administration's controversial new policy sparked outrage this week, as more stories emerged about families who had been unexpectedly separated and as visits by reporters to juvenile immigration shelters shed light on the facilities where many of those children now find themselves. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Southern Baptist Convention issued statements critical of the practice.

The children are passed into the care of the US Department of Health and Human Services, the British Broadcasting Corporation reports.

"We have some of the highest detention standards in the world for children", he said.

Because the children are not charged with a crime, USA rules state that they can not be detained with their parents. But there is no law mandating that children be separated from their parents. Because federal law prohibits children from being held in jail, they have been taken from their parents and put into facilities like the former Walmart in Brownsville, Texas, that now houses around 1,500 boys.

Some immigration campaigners have claimed women are being separated from infants, an allegation that USA officials have denied.

Under a "zero tolerance" policy announced by the attorney general, Jeff Sessions, Department of Homeland Security officials are now referring all cases of illegal entry for criminal prosecution. For Sessions, this meant quoting Romans 13 - that bit about how the laws of the government should be obeyed because "God has ordained them for the goal of order". "Stop crossing the border illegally with your children", Sessions said in a speech on Thursday. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., chairman of the Senate Democratic midterm effort, plan to visit the border city of Brownsville, Texas, on Sunday to highlight the concerns.

Sri Lanka captain charged with ball tampering
For West Indies, only opener Devon Smith and wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich posted scores of substance, 61 and 55 respectively. But the home side was all out in quick succession after tea for 300, a lead of 47 on the first innings.

Inside the Trump administration, current and former officials say, there is considerable unease about the policy, which is regarded by some charged with carrying it out as unfeasible in practice and questionable morally.

House Republican leaders nonetheless have been trying to broker the compromise between moderate and conservative GOP lawmakers that would encourage families to be kept together, while also provide funding for a new border wall, a path to citizenship for the young immigrants brought to the country as minors and new limits on legal immigration.

Kraft said that the separation from their parents is inflicting serious damage to the children. But Trump suggested Friday in an interview on Fox News' "Fox and Friends" he would not reverse his administration's policy unless Democrats agreed to his longstanding immigration priorities.

Sanders: Hey, Brian, I know you want to get more TV time, but that's not what this is about.

President Donald Trump won't take responsibility for the consequences of an immigration policy that is separating children from parents who are arrested for illegally crossing the U.S. -Mexico border.

"The president fully supports both the Goodlatte bill and the House leadership bill", according to White House spokesman Raj Shah. Miller and Marc Short, the White House director of legislative affairs, have argued that immigration legislation is unlikely to pass this summer, officials said.

The Trump administration has said it is simply enforcing the law, and has blamed Democrats, an explanation that Democrats have rejected. He said he saw men, women and children crowded in cages. Greenberg, now with the Migration Policy Institute, says there is a careful process to determine how to place unaccompanied children, most of whom come here from three countries - Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.
