Anti-Trump texts 'cast a cloud' over email probe — Federal Bureau of Investigation report

The FBI knew of the email intrusion seven weeks before James Comey declined to press charges against Clinton

The report, which was made public Thursday, rebuked then-FBI Director James Comey's handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation. "There was total bias, I mean total bias". "What he did was criminal". "What he did was so bad in terms of our constitution, in terms of the well-being of our country", Trump said.

Trump continued: "Should he be locked up? It was a den of thieves".

In the report, the Justice Department's internal auditor on sharply criticized Comey for his handling of the Hillary Clinton email probe during the 2016 election, but said investigators found no evidence that his conduct was motivated by "political bias". This investigation is specifically related to the Clinton email investigation.

Horowitz wrote that the Clinton saga was 'not the first time the [DOJ] and the FBI have conducted a politically-charged investigation and it will not be the last'.

President Trump is right: It looks awful that an FBI agent involved in both the Hillary Clinton email and Trump-Russia investigations privately texted this to someone: "We'll stop" [Trump from becoming president].

The President on Friday took issue with the report's conclusion. Page only briefly worked on Mueller's team and left before the texts were discovered.

"If you look at the fruit of the poisoned tree, you can't have that kind of bias in somebody wanting to make sure the president gets defeated leading an investigation", Meadows said.

Its findings will revive debate about whether Federal Bureau of Investigation actions affected the outcome of the 2016 presidential election and contributed to Clinton's loss to Donald Trump.

“But my emails, ” she said, reacting in a three-word tweet.

Concerned about the "appearance that former President Clinton was influencing" the probe, Lynch began talking to her staff the next morning about possibly recusing herself from overseeing the investigation, the report says.

"The opinions I care the most about are the opinions of the people who actually really know us and know us through our work", he said.

John Podesta, who ran the Clinton campaign, said "the report demonstrates beyond doubt" that Comey was unfair to Clinton by announcing developments of the email investigation during the campaign while not revealing the presence of the separate probe beginning in July 2016 into the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

Texts between the two included their observations of the 2016 election and criticism of Trump.

Comey's firing on May 9 of past year was the first in a series of steps that led to the appointment of an independent special counsel. Mueller removed Strzok from his team past year after an internal investigation uncovered the texts.

Another FBI attorney, who was the primary attorney assigned to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation until this past February, messaged an FBI employee the day after Trump's election as president that he was "just devastated".

In addition to harboring anti-Trump sentiments, it seems Strzok and Page may have had negative feelings toward Sanders, a Democratic candidate for president, and his supporters. Page asked in a text to Strzok.

Strzok replies: "No. No he's not".

The FBI director also said he has tapped the bureau's associate deputy director "to lead a review of how the FBI handles sensitive investigations".

Mueller is looking into the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election and any potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow, among other matters that may arise from the investigation. Comey has said he was prompted to take extraordinary action in the Clinton case, in part, because he believed then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch showed poor judgment when she met privately in June 2016 with former President Bill Clinton when their planes were parked on the tarmac in Phoenix.

THE FACTS: Trump was referring to Mueller's team.

"The end result was wrong", Trump said in an interview on the Fox News Channel.
