Spurs will not trade Kawhi Leonard to Western Conference team

Report Phoenix Suns are another team worth watching for Kawhi Leonard

It's safe to say the Spurs would rather trade Leonard to the Eastern Conference, as much as they might even be compelled to make the move.

People close to the Spurs forward have expressed a desire for Leonard to play for the New York Knicks, according to ESPN's Ian Begley, however, Leonard hasn't expressed a desire to play for the Knicks.

When the news came out pertaining to Leonard, most people predicted that three teams make sense for the multiple All-Star to go to. The Boston Celtics, for example, have budding All-Stars already on the roster, as well as potential future lottery picks.

Leonard, a native of Los Angeles, has one year remaining of his contract with the Spurs.

One intriguing team for Leonard is the Cleveland Cavaliers, who reportedly have made calls to San Antonio about landing their star.

Trump to talk immigration with House Republicans on Tuesday
The White House reiterated Thursday that if the House bill includes all of the president's priorities, he'll back it. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., a leader of the moderate bloc, said he had made "no final decision yet" on the bill.

Aside from the fact that Kawhi Leonard's contract expires after the 2018-19 season, teams are reportedly concerned about trading for someone with the injury history that he has. Instead, they will certainly try to meet with Leonard first - either in an attempt to resolve this conflict or, at the very least, confirm this is how he feels.

The Spurs probably wouldn't trade Leonard to the Knicks if they can't get Porzingis and the Knicks, who are trying to rebuild, aren't going to give up their best player just so that they can get Leonard.

San Antonio can offer him a supermax deal for 5-years worth $219 million, while others can only offer $188 million, like his hometown Los Angeles.

Payton, who played one of his last National Basketball Association seasons with the Lakers, has the pulse for these free agents and their potential destination, both being constantly linked to the purple-and-gold since the possibility became known. While the Thunder essentially rented George for one year, youngsters Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis put up much-improved numbers after being sent from Oklahoma City to IN, and are expected to remain key parts of the Pacers nucleus for multiple seasons to come. With two Defensive Player of the Year awards, he would significantly improve what was one of the league's worst defenses in 2018.

James knows all-too-well how good Leonard is, having seen him win the 2014 NBA Finals MVP award when the Spurs eliminated the Miami Heat in five games. But what exactly could Cleveland trade?
