International Yoga Day 2018

India gears up to celebrate 4th International Yoga Day

Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat in his address said that "it was matter of pride for Uttarakhand residents that they got an opportunity to do yoga along with the Prime Minister" and thanked the PM for choosing Uttarakhand to host the fourth International Yoga Day event.

He said the proposal for the Yoga Day at the UN was accepted in record time with a majority of nations supporting it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the country-wide celebrations in Dehradun, where around 50,000 enthusiasts at the Forest Research Institute campus stretched an extra muscle in various yogic asanas. The enthusiasm of getting from "illness to wellness" is spreading from the busy streets of the South Korean capital, Seoul, to the foot of Eiffel Tower in Paris. "Instead of increasing suffering, yoga heals", he said. Instead of further animosity, Yoga assimilates.

The Indian discipline of yoga, involving spiritual and physical practices, is followed in myriad forms today by millions of people worldwide, with an entry in UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list. More than 1000 Central Armed Police Force personnel participated in Yoga organized by CRPF at Raipur for CAPFs in conjunction with Naya Raipur Development Authority, tweeted CRPF's official handle.

Here's all you need to know about what International Yoga Day is, when it is, what the theme for 2018 will be, how to watch its events, how to celebrate it and some notable events taking place in India and throughout the world.

New Time Cover Blasts Trump on Family Separation
Since Attorney-General Jeff Sessions announced the policy, almost 2,000 children have been taken away from their parents. Due to widespread backlash, Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday that will effectively put an end to his policy.

Last year, the main function was held in Lucknow.

He asked people to embrace yoga not just for a healthy, but happy and peaceful life.

Two years ago, the influential Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee, which is a conglomerate of 15 major churches, had boycotted the celebration saying yoga is "dipped in Hinduism". "Yoga should be a general recommendation as part of the rehabilitation therapy for drug addicts who seek a high by consuming risky substances, a high that yoga can give them by enhancing euphoric hormones", she said.

"Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness; increases body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns; relaxes the mind; centres attention; and sharpens concentration".

"We have developed a program that is a combination of simple yoga asanas and mudras with emphasis on breathing, supported by Arabic rhythmic movements - something for all age groups and fitness levels to experience and enjoy".
