Julius Randle agrees to sign with the New Orleans Pelicans

Julius Randle agrees to sign with the New Orleans Pelicans

That was the reaction of my college-aged son, Jack, and probably many National Basketball Association observers, when New Orleans Pelicans free-agent forward DeMarcus Cousins agreed to terms Monday night (July 2) on a one-year deal with the two-time defending National Basketball Association champion Golden State Warriors.

But, on Monday, the Lakers renounced his rights, which allowed him to become an unrestricted free agent.

The Lakers also added versatility with James, Rondo and Stephenson all triple-double threats on any given night.

According to multiple reports Monday, Payton's deal is worth around $2.7 million over one year.

Julius Randle will not be back with the Lakers.

This new team surrounding LeBron James seems to be a bit of a weird fit.

LeBron James agrees to four-year deal with LA Lakers
We wish his kids, his wife Savannah, his mother Gloria, and LeBron himself nothing but the best in the years and decades ahead. He dragged a Cleveland Cavaliers' team that had no business being a championship contender to the 2018 NBA Finals.

The Lakers reached a one-year, $9 million deal with the 32-year-old point guard.

With Randle gone, the Lakers now have $5 million in cap room.

Rondo averaged 8.3 points and 8.2 assists in helping lead the Pelicans to the Western Conference semifinals last season.

Still, with the scoring prowess the Lakers have on their side, a point guard that can distribute the ball as well as Rondo is a pretty important addition.

ESPN is reporting that DeMarcus "Boogie" Cousins, one the best big men in the game is joining the reigning champion Golden State Warriors. Randle was the seventh overall pick of the 2014 draft out of Kentucky. They also re-signed two-way shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to a one-year, $12 million deal. He hasn't shown many ill-effects of the injury, having only missed a combined nine games over the past three seasons.
