Lewis Hamilton promises no let up in 'intense' F1 2018

Lewis Hamilton promises no let up in 'intense' F1 2018

ESPN rounds up the main talking points from a thrilling British Grand Prix, where Sebastian Vettel claimed Ferrari's first win at Silverstone since 2011. This was starkly demonstrated by Daniel Ricciardo's inability to get past a floundering Valtteri Bottas late on in the race.

The 59-year-old said: "The reason Lewis didn't talk to me in parc ferme is he wanted time to go and calm down before he had to talk to us".

Vettel's best chance came on Lap 47 when he was able to gain six-tenths through the first sector before popping DRS open on the Wellington Straight.

The second defining moment of Hamilton's race came when a late safety auto called for a strategy decision. Matteo Bonciani of the FIA said "be careful with him, he is really not happy at all at the moment".

"I was a bit concerned (about my neck injury) going into the race but I was fine".

"Obviously we're in a tough battle this year and it's the most intense battle that I think we've probably all had but I'm very, very grateful that the auto was still in one piece after the first turn three incident".

But like in Austria week ago he soon ran into trouble and his hopes of a record-breaking race were immediately over.

There was a definite buzz in the air that Lewis Hamilton would take a record fifth win in succession and a record sixth overall.

The Englishman clearly blamed Raikkonen, who was handed a 10-seconds penalty, for the crash and found it hard to face the Finn or accept an apology. "But I will come back fighting".

Social media reacts to Devin Booker’s max extension with Suns
Booker averaged 24.9 points in his second National Basketball Association season and 22.1 points in his third season for the Suns. Devin and the team both wanted to extend his agreement with the club as long as we possibly could".

Or maybe it was recrimination having been controversially punted to the back of the field just three corners into the 52-lap race by Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

Vettel strengthens his stranglehold on the championship and will head to his home race in Germany in a fortnight's time with an eight-point lead.

He lost ground by finishing fifth there, while Hamilton won, but has outscored the Brit 40-18 in the last two outings.

F1 returns with the German Grand Prix on Sunday, July 22.

Hamilton was visibly frustrated at the end and skipped his pre-podium interview.

"I lost almost three kilograms to get back to the top today for you and my team". Believe me, I will not give up.

"Interesting tactics, I would say, from the other side", he said on the podium.

Vettel and Raikkonen pitted but Mercedes kept their drivers out, assuring Hamilton that he was "the fastest guy by miles" with everything to play for on tyres that would last the distance.

Ricciardo is fourth on 104 points, with Bottas sitting just two points below him. The Spaniard was left fuming about Kevin Magnussen's late race moves, though, with McLaren reporting the Dane to the stewards after he reportedly tried to force Alonso onto the grass.
