Trump to Unveil Court Pick Monday

For both Republicans and Democrats the Supreme Court looks to be on the agenda in the midterm elections

In an op-ed for The Deseret News, Hatch explains what he thinks will happen when Trump makes his Supreme Court pick on Monday to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.

"This is a nightmare for red-state Democrats to oppose a highly qualified nominee, and all four of these people are highly qualified-been on the court, know what they're doing, mainstream judges", Mr.

Liberals and conservatives have already begun spending on TV ads as they noisily prepare the ground for a political fight that would further expose America's gaping divisions.

According to National Public Radio (NPR), President Trump has reduced the names of the potential nominees to three judges - Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett and Raymond Kethledge.

McConnell also reportedly warned Trump that nominating Amy Coney Barrett, an extremist social conservative who wants to overturn Roe v. Wade, could lose the votes of Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine. He went back and forth every few hours between the four options in front of him, with Kethledge getting the least attention, people familiar with his thinking said. The US President interviewed seven candidates from his master list of 25 judges, the White House said.

The Trump administration has refused to take a position on the issue, but Kavanaugh said it was "assumed" by the administration that a teen who is an illegal immigrant in federal custody has a right to have an abortion.

Apple Music Passes Spotify in Total U.S. Subscriber Numbers

Jones said that regardless of who the nominee is, "we're going to give them a very, very good, hard and fair look to determine what I believe to be the best interest of my constituents, but also the country".

"This case exemplifies why Kavanaugh is not the best available Supreme Court prospect", Phillip Jauregui of the Judicial Action Group told conservative leaders in a memo last week, reports Politico. "I think even the people of Alabama like to make sure they have judges that adhere to the rule of law". "The whole list is extraordinary", he said. On Sunday there was no indication that he had yet made his decision, as speculation continued to swirl around the appointment.

The son of Indian-American immigrants, Thapar is the Nation's first Article III judge of South Asian descent. "I've never seen a president of the United States in effect make himself a puppet of outside groups and choose from a group of right-wing fringe ideologues that are prepared on this list".

"The vast majority of American people, shown by poll after poll, want Roe v. Wade to be preserved", Blumenthal said.

While the U.S. Senate once required a 60-vote supermajority to overcome blocking tactics against Supreme Court nominees, the Republican majority changed the rules a year ago during the debate on Justice Neil Gorsuch.

Trump had discussed the nomination with Vice President Mike Pence in Bedminster, New Jersey yesterday.
