Trump's Mar-a-Lago files request to hire 40 foreign workers

Donald Trump

Over the past decade, President Donald Trump's private foundation, the Donald J. Trump Foundation, gave hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations to charitable organizations after they hosted events at his private Mar-a-Lago golf club in Palm Beach, Florida.

The posting for waiters shows Trump wants to hire five more foreigners for those jobs than in 2017.

These so-called H-2B visas are only issued if employers can prove that there aren't enough "able, willing, qualified and available" American workers to perform the jobs in question, and demonstrate that the arrival of foreign workers "will not adversely affect the wages and working conditions of similarly employed US workers, according to the Department of Labor". At the end of mentioned period, they would be expected to return home.

The Palm Beach resort reportedly wanted to hire workers who would be employed using H-2B visas-which businesses usually obtain only if they are able to prove they can not find enough American workers to fill the vacancies.

The Mar-a-Lago Club has repeatedly used foreign workers in the past.

Even Daniel Baddiel, one of the comedians who helped create the song, has joined in the fun to celebrate England's advancing team. "We're buzzing.

If the Florida resort's request is approved, Mar-a-Lago will have 261 foreign temporary workers on the controversial H-2B visa. But the base salary for servers rose to $12.68 per hour this year from $11.88 per hour the year before. "But other hotels do the exact same thing".

The increases in the numbers of foreign workers sought by Mar-a-Lago come at a time when the club's business model seems to be changing - transformed, by Trump's divisive politics from a club focused on charity galas to a GOP clubhouse frequented by Trump's friends and allies.

Other Trump businesses have hired foreign workers for temporary jobs. The servers and cooks would work October through May.

In addition to Mar-a-Lago actively seeking out foreign workers, the Palm Beach resort has made very little effort to hire American employees in the first place.

He's defended hiring foreign workers in the past telling MSNBC in 2015, "Mar-a-Lago is a seasonal job, which is very hard to get people in Florida for seasonal jobs".
