Arsenal sign Uruguay's Torreira for $48m

Arsenal transfer news Unai Emery Ivan Gazidis

Lucas Torreira is an Arsenal player after completing his move from Sampdoria for a fee believed to be in the region of €30 million.

The 22 year-old has just returned from representing his country at the World Cup in Russian Federation, where he played in all five matches as they progressed to the quarter-finals.

On the signing of Guendouzi, Arsenal manager Emery said: "We are delighted Matteo is joining us".

"He is a young player already with good experience, but who wants to keep on growing".

A defensive-minded midfielder, Guendouzi is making a big step up in joining Arsenal, but he is definitely the kind of player they need.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported how Arsenal announced the signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

"Winning silverware, as I said, is very important to me and winning things here at Arsenal would be incredible".

While the Uruguay worldwide was unaware his journey was being documented, he said he was inundated with messages from Arsenal fans who had gotten wind of his move to Unai Emery's side.

The same article states that the Uruguay worldwide is "primed" to take the No11 shirt after Ozil got his hands on prized number 10 following Jack Wilshere's move to West Ham United. I want to become part of the club's history and to achieve great things here. I am really looking forward to starting this new adventure. It makes me feel comfortable.

Torreira will not link up with Arsenal until next month following a period of rest after the World Cup.

Ozil recently switched to number 10.

"I tried to enjoy the World Cup as much as I could".
