US Embassy in London alerts Americans of possible violence during Trump visit

Protestors shut down the Dan Ryan Expressway during an anti-violence protest calling for common sense gun laws

Temporary signs indicate road closures around the USA ambassador's residence, where special fences have been erected prior to the US presidential visit at the end of the week, in Regent's Park in London, Britain, July 10, 2018.

After he was invited past year, more than 1.86 million people signed a petition saying Trump should not be given a state visit because it could embarrass the queen and thousands of police will also be on duty with large protests expected.

The U.S. embassy in London has warned Americans to "keep a low profile" during President Trump's visit to England later this week.

The embassy said these demonstrations were expected to attract large crowds and cause road closures.

Tens of thousands of protesters are expected to turn out against Donald Trump when he visits Britain this week but some believe the protests are an embarrassment and that the United States president deserves a warm welcome, writes Alex Fraser.

Its advice to United States citizens was to "keep a low profile" and "exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings that may become violent".

President Trump nominates Brett Kavanaugh to Supreme Court
Republicans and Democrats are at odds over Kavanaugh and with the Senate closely divided, his path to confirmation is treacherous. As a result, Trump found more than twice as many judicial vacancies waiting for him when he entered the White House as Obama did.

Trump is set to land in London on Thursday July 12 and stay at the U.S. Ambassador's residence in Regent's Park before dinner at Blenheim Palace.

Nearly all of Trump's activities will be outside the city: He'll meet the Queen at Windsor Castle, not Buckingham Palace.

On Thursday, London mayor Sadiq Khan approved the request for the giant baby blimp to fly over the city near Parliament on July 13 at the same time as a protest will be happening on the ground.

The president is scheduled to meet with British Prime Minister Theresa May and Queen Elizabeth during his visit.

May's future was thrown into question after two high-level cabinet members -including Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson- resigned amid the growing chaos surrounding Brexit negotiations. According to The Guardian, Trump's itinerary will largely keep him away from the capital city.
