Zsa Zsa dies two weeks after winning title

An English bulldog who sent tongues wagging just last month at the World's Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma has died, her owners confirmed Tuesday.

The 9-year-old pooch passed away in her sleep Monday night, her owner, Megan Brainard, told the Star Tribune. He says she appeared fine the day before, so it was a shock.

The world's ugliest dog has died just nine days after claiming her title.

"Looks are deceiving, some thought she looked scary, but she was the most gentle dog", said Larson. The dog had previously been rescued from a puppy mill in Missouri when she was five years old, according to the newspaper. Despite her dog's appearance, Brainard proudly boasted, "She is so attractive in my eyes".

Wimbledon | Goerges sets up Wimbledon semi-final date with Serena
Williams is back in action at Wimbledon following a hiatus from the tennis circuit after becoming a mother previous year . The 36-year-old is returning to Wimbledon this year after missing the tennis tournament last summer due to her pregnancy.

Brainard said she named the pooch after Hungarian actress Zsa Zsa Gabor because she liked to lie on the couch "like a handsome model".

The English Bulldog's lolling tongue and crooked underbite helped her win the title in June.

"She is just so ugly, she's handsome", Brainard told The New York Times last month. She was one of 14 candidates and won over pets who had impressive qualifications, including some that had been featured in films, TV shows, music videos - and one who had it's own IMDB page! "We were all saying our goodbyes".

Though it may seem a dubious honor, the Ugliest Dog contest seeks to demonstrate "the importance of advocating for the adoration of all animals", according to its website.
