Puerto Rican T-shirt video controversy results in officer's resignation

Officer resigns after dispute over Puerto Rican shirt

A Chicago man who was caught on video unleashing a racist tirade against a woman wearing a Puerto Rico shirt was hit with felony hate crime charges on Thursday.

The Forest Preserves of Cook County confirmed that Officer Patrick Connor no longer works for the department following an incident filmed on June 14, which went viral almost a month later.

Cook County Forest Preserve officials said Thursday they had planned to interview the officer involved in a now-viral Puerto Rico t-shirt video - but that he resigned before they could do so.

"Are you a citizen?" he's also heard saying.

Puerto Rico is a US territory and its residents are USA citizens, yet Trybus, who is white, told Irizarry that "if you're an American citizen, you should not be wearing that".

"Officer, I feel highly threatened", she says, as Mr Connor turns his back and walks towards his patrol auto.

The officer resigned Wednesday and the investigation into the incident continues, the agency said.

Adult film star Stormy Daniels arrested at OH strip club, lawyer says
Police documents show that Stormy touched Prather's butt and breasts and then put her own breasts in Prather's face. Prosecutors say the "touching" statute only applies to strippers who "regularly appear" at the establishment.

"Is there anything you can do?" she said.

"Officer, I'm renting this area and he's harassing me about the shirt I'm wearing, ' Irizzary then tells the cop, who had already been called to the scene to investigate Trybus" intoxicated behavior.

A second officer eventually arrives to speak to Trybus. The man resumes his abuse, saying: "You're not American. The world is not going to change the United States of America, period", he continued. "You know that, right?"

'We will be looking into this incident as our offices in DC are in contact with local and state authorities, demanding that this officer be expelled from the police force, ' Rosello tweeted on Tuesday.

And anyone who has eyeballs can see how police do not handle encounters with Black and brown people the same as with whites. "People have just as much right to be here as you do, and when you're drunk you don't belong here".

Ms Irizarry used her mobile phone to film the confrontation, which unfolded on 14 June as she set up a picnic for her birthday at Caldwell Woods in the Chicago suburbs. "We might start with the fine example presented by Mia Irizarry and her family, who handled this ugly incident with great composure, never stooping to the level of the man who attacked her". The woman, Mia Irizarry, is heard appealing to the officer to help restrain the man, but the officer doesn't appear to engage until almost 10 minutes later, when other officers arrive. We are further addressing aspects of this incident and General Superintendent Arnold Randall will have more details at a media availability tomorrow morning.

Puerto Rico is a U.S. commonwealth with its own constitution rather than a state. The island is a US commonwealth, and Puerto Ricans are American citizens.
