Serena Williams surprised by semi-final spot at Wimbledon

Just one of over 400 points

In her 13th Wimbledon quarter-final, Williams was yesterday to face Italian world No. 52 Camila Giorgi.

Seven-time champion Williams has won all three of her meetings with first-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist Camila Giorgi, with the most recent coming in the first round of the 2016 Australian Open. She roared back to win the final two sets 6-3 and 6-4.

Triumphant in her two previous Wimbledon tilts in 2015 and 2016, Williams's victory also extended her winning streak on the London grass to 19 matches.

The 11th seed has never faced Ostapenko, who says she is playing with freedom after the disappointment of her French Open title defence ending with a first-round exit in May. Pliskova was beaten 6-3, 7-6 (1) by No. 20 Kiki Bertens, who eliminated Williams' sister, Venus, last week.

The 36-year-old Williams was absent from the All England Club in 2017 due to her pregnancy, and played her first Grand Slam since giving birth at the French Open last month when she reached fourth round.

The American star will have history in her sights against Kerber as she tries to equal Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slams singles titles.

Serena Williams has warned her Wimbledon rivals that she is nowhere near her best despite powering into the quarter-finals without dropping a set.

Having cruised through her first four matches here, the question was asked of Serena Williams if she would rather have had a tough test to see exactly where her game is at.

Kate Makes Surprise Appearance in McQueen
Kate Middleton wore a pastel blue Alexander McQueen jacket to the RAF 100th anniversary celebration on Tuesday. She's expected to make her official debut back into the workforce in September , however.

That was winning majors, and Williams enters the semifinals as the lowest-seeded player (25th) remaining in this year's Wimbledon tournament. "I'm happy to be in the second week, quarter-finals and now the semi-finals".

By the time a Goerges drop-shot drifted into net to present Serena with the decisive break in the sixth game of the second set, the contest had already been sapped of any drama and moments later the title favourite was waving to the crowd in celebration.

She explained: "I changed my approach to the surface". "But I will sort out some tactics with my team. and we'll be ready". When she served for it a second time, she needed to navigate a 16-point game that included five deuces and all of those match points, until forcing a forehand error on the last one.

Serena Williams came up with a comeback to reach the semifinals at Wimbledon, then walked off Centre Court with her right index finger aloft. Ostapenko double faults at breakpoint as Kerber clinches the first set 6-3.

Rapper friend Drake and fellow singer Justin Timberlake were among those rooting for her on Centre Court.

"I have a long way to go".

In a match that featured eight breaks of serve - four in the first five games - Ostapenko was able to elevate her game in the crucial moments. "Well, it's still one more match to go for both of us".

"It's an honor to share the court with her", Goerges said. Meanwhile, Ostapenko also achieved a win in straight sets against Dominika Cibulkova, 7-5, 6-4.
