Public health officials say the risk to the public is low, but advised people not to pick up any odd items.

Police briefly cordoned off part of the English city of Salisbury on Thursday (July 12) near where former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter were found poisoned, then removed the barriers after discovering no cause for alarm.

They shut Castle Street between Blue Boar Row and Chipper Lane, but have now confirmed the incident has been dealt with.

Wiltshire police and crime commissioner Angus Macpherson has asked policing minister Nick Hurd for more help to deal with the ongoing investigations into nerve agent poisonings in Salisbury and Amesbury.

"There was a very heavy police presence there along with the fire service and ambulances".

An eyewitness has stated that the man, believed to be in his 30s, was a "local homeless guy" who was "sat on the floor, completely conscious, talking".

"At the moment there is nothing to suggest any wider risk to the public".

United Kingdom police reported that the victim in Salisbury the man was taken to hospital and his life is not in danger.

"We would also like to thank members of the public for their ongoing patience and support".

Dawn Sturgess, 44, and Charlie Rowley, 45, were sickened on June 30 in a town not far from Salisbury, where British authorities say a Russian ex-spy and his daughter were poisoned with Novichok in March. Ms Sturgess died on Sunday.

It follows a number of poisonings in the area with the Russian nerve agent Novichok, which has caused the death of one.
