Trump says 'might' ask Putin to extradite accused Russian hackers

The meeting comes against the backdrop of Trump feuding with European allies, 12 Russian military intelligence officers indicted stemming from the Mueller investigation into Russian meddling during the 2016 presidential election, and Democrats back home calling for Trump to cancel the meeting.

In a July 27, 2016, speech, then-candidate Donald Trump called on Russian hackers to find emails from Hillary Clinton, his Democratic opponent in the USA presidential campaign.

Police say the paraglider, carrying a banner reading "Trump: Well Below Par", breached a security no fly zone when it flew over the United States president's Turnberry resort in western Scotland during Trump's visit there on Friday in protest against his environmental policies.

Pressed on describing the E.U.as a USA foe, Trump said "I love those countries" but "in a trade sense, they've really taken advantage of us and many of those countries are in North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and they weren't paying their bills".

The fresh indictments prompted a number of USA senators, all but one Democrats, to request Trump cancel his summit with Putin.

He said that Russian Federation is a foe "in certain respects" and that China is a foe "economically ... but that doesn't mean they are bad".

"Well I think we have a lot of foes". Russian Federation is a foe in certain respects.

Trump said, "We had a truly great Summit" and claims it was "inaccurately covered by much of the media".

In the CBS News interview, Trump declined to discuss his goals for the summit - "I'll let you know after the meeting", he said - but said he believes such sessions are beneficial.

That detail is part of a larger grand jury indictment of 12 Russian intelligence officers for hacking-related offenses in the 2016 election, the Justice Department announced Friday.

Trump was personally briefed by US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein shortly before leaving for his seven-day European trip, which caps off Monday in the Nordic capital with the one-on-one Putin summit.

At a news conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May yesterday, the president said he will bring up the Russian cyber-attacks but dismissed the possibility Putin will accept responsibility.

But he said the blame for interference in elections should be placed on the perpetrators.

The indictments issued Friday by special counsel Robert Mueller allege that the Russian hackers publicly released tens of thousands of stolen Democratic emails and documents using "fictitious online personas".

He said he expects talks with Mr Putin to produce "nothing bad" and "maybe some good". Many noted how Trump has failed to take any concrete actions against Russian Federation for the election interference, even putting off sanctions that passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in Congress.
