'Justice' for multi-racial World Cup winners

Hundreds of thousands of people packed the Champs Elysees in Paris as France's victorious football team paraded the World Cup.

Captain Hugo Lloris, flanked by coach Didier Deschamps, was the first to emerge from the aircraft, raising the famed golden trophy before heading down the stairs and onto a freshly laid red carpet.

In an open-top bus, France were taken through Paris with the trophy held aloft, the public screaming their adulation at their heroes as they were driven down the Champs-Elysees amid clouds of flare smoke.

Croatia soccer fans shout chants and cheer as they watch a television broadcast of the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup match between France and Croatia in downtown Zagreb, Croatia, Sunday, July 15, 2018.

Numerous invited clubs are based in the poor neighbourhoods that produced the players who made up France's youthful, diverse World Cup team, including 19-year-old breakout star Kylian Mbappe. "All we want is a wave from the players".

The Paris metro system got into the celebratory mood, announcing the names of a number of stations were being briefly changed to honour the players and coach, Didier Deschamps.

The Victor Hugo stop, for example - named after the famous 19th-century writer - has become Victor Hugo Lloris, after the team's goalkeeper.

Trump to May: "Sue the EU"
The US president said on Friday at a joint press conference he had given her a suggestion - but she had found it too "brutal". She added, "these people do not want a responsible Brexit; they want their version of Brexit".

This is the fourth consecutive FIFA World Cup in which football fans have been able to vote for the Goal of the Tournament, with the first vote taking place following Germany 2006.

The team is due to return home later this afternoon after a night of celebrations in Moscow.

His performances saw comparisons drawn with Brazil legend and now fellow World Cup victor, Pele. "This is good for the morale".

"We had so much fun last night, the city was full of joy, so much celebration", a woman dressed in red, white and blue who had made her way out to Charles de Gaulle airport told BFM TV. Riot police used water cannon and tear gas to end the violence.

Broken shop windows, pillage and other destruction lined a section of the Champs-Elysees, the post-game site for revelers. Authorities detained 90 people for questioning in the Paris region and some 290 around France.

The country of 4 million people has been gripped in euphoria since its team beat England to reach the World Cup final, where Croatia lost to France 4-2 on Sunday.
