‘Nothing short of treasonous’: Democrats, Republicans dump on Trump after Putin meeting

Russia's President Vladimir Putin listens while US President Donald Trump speaks during a press conference at Finland's Presidential Palace

At the press conference, which followed an hourslong private meeting between Trump and Putin, Trump cast doubt on the U.S. intelligence community's assessment that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 United States presidential election.

The Russian government allegedly interfered in the election in order to increase political instability in the USA and damage Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign by boosting other candidates Trump, Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein.

By "the past, he's presumably referencing 2016 when, Trump's intel leaders have all agreed, Russian Federation interfered with the US presidential election, and also warned all signs are that Putin continues to meddle, and will continue to do to going forward into the midterm elections and beyond".

Hillary Clinton took aim at President Donald Trump's much-anticipated meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling into question her former presidential campaign rival's loyalties just hours after he tweeted a congratulations to the hosts of the World Cup.

"We have been clear in our assessments of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and their ongoing, pervasive efforts to undermine our democracy", the director, Dan Coats, said in a statement.

During his press conference with the infamously corrupt Russian president, not to mention a 130-minute one-on-one meeting behind closed doors, the POTUS proved where his loyalties lie. He also insisted that he saw no reason why Putin - who said on Monday that Trump was his preferred candidate in 2016 - would have wanted to influence the USA election.

"I will say this, I don't see any reason why it would be [Russia]", he replied, before quickly trying to defer to the Democratic National Committee's server that was hacked. And he seemed to endorse a plan Putin proposed that would allow the special counsel Robert Mueller's team to work with Russian investigators to question 12 Russians indicted last week.

Rep. Justin Amash of MI tweeted that someone could be in favour of improved relations with Russian Federation and of Trump meeting Putin "and still think something is not right here".

Departing for Helsinki on Sunday from a weekend at his golf resort in Scotland, the president bristled about how his performance with Putin may be judged.

Addressing the media, Trump said the meeting Monday with Putin "went very well".

World Cup afterglow gives France a sorely needed boost
For all the insane antics - and some revelers who got out of control - a sense of patriotism and unity was nearly visceral. Reporter Joy Reid of New Zealand's 1 News has spoken of being tear gassed while covering the mayhem.

Officials at the Kremlin and the White House say Putin and Trump will discuss numerous issues causing the most friction between the countries.

In a weekend interview with CBS News, Trump admitted that Russian Federation remains a foe, but he put Moscow on a par with China and the European Union as economic and diplomatic rivals.

"We don't have anything on them, and there can't be anything on them", he said.

Chuck Hagel, a former senator and defense secretary, said that Trump "failed America" in the press conference.

"He was a rich person, but, well, there's plenty of rich persons in the United States", Putin added. During the press conference, Putin spoke first, and the first question went to a Russian reporter. He says Putin should never be believed: "Whatever he tells you, it's not true". Putin has repeatedly denied such actions.

The two leaders finally met at the Finnish presidential palace in Helsinki as the United States president congratulated the latter for hosting the World Cup.

They are said to have done so after planting codes in the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's computers. That includes Russia's military incursions into Ukraine and Syria, the Iranian presence in Syria, Russian hostility toward US allies, and renewing worldwide arms control treaties.

Others with connections to Utah, including the daughters of U.S. Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman Jr., sharply criticized Trump. "There won't be a Perry Mason here, I don't think".

"I never thought I would see the day when our American President would stand on the stage with the Russian President and place blame on the United States for Russian aggression".

The Russian Foreign Ministry rejected last week's indictment as part of a "shameful comedy" they claim has been staged to prevent the normalisation of Russia-US ties.
