Romulus, Michigan: Girl survives dad's fatal crash, killed by another auto

DeSandra Thomas

A 7-year-old girl was struck and killed by a vehicle on Sunday while she was attempting to contact police for help after her allegedly intoxicated father was involved in a drunk driving crash, police said.

Emergency crews were called to I-94 in Romulus, Michigan around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

And Dessandra's mother Sandria Burts told Fox2: 'They say my daughter tried to save her father, she ran to get some help for her daddy.

Investigators say after the crash, Thomas mistakenly thought her father was dead, so she grabbed her backpack from the back seat, climbed out of the auto, scaled a fence and went to call for help, but was run over by another vehicle while crossing the freeway, reported The Detroit News.

Police say the child was seeking help for her father, who was involved in an alleged drunk driving crash in the area, when she attempted to cross the freeway and was hit by an oncoming driver. You have a mother who lost her daughter.

The driver of the auto that struck the 7-year-old was questioned by police and released. Her phone apparently could not place calls. Police say she was killed instantly.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for the 7-year-old girl's funeral. She then climbed over the broken fence and went to look for help.

Amazon is hoping its deals, available only to Prime members, are a hit with customers as it's raising the price of the program. The idea is to offer limited-time sales for its Prime members, potentially attracting consumers to sign up for the membership.

After the girl's dad crashed and was unconscious, the girl grabbed her belongings and left the vehicle, Shaw said in the video. But when troopers arrived, they were unaware of the text messages sent to the local police department and did not find any sign or evidence that she struck someone.

The child's father has been taken into custody. "I'm rejoicing with her life and understanding that she was a handsome child".

Shaw told WJBK the tragedy could have been prevented if the father made the decision to not drive while drunk.

"Here's a 7-year-old girl that's not going to go to prom", he said.

Dessandra's mother, Sandria Burts, told Fox 2 it took her 20 years to conceive her daughter after being told by doctors she could not have children of her own.

"I love her and I miss her so much", she said.
