Trump Hits ‘Fake News’ over North Korea Progress

US-N. Korea Set for Working-level Talks on Repatriation of Soldiers' Remains

It was the first time in nine years that USA and North Korean generals held talks.

Pompeo initially said the two sides had agreed to hold talks on US remains on Thursday but no North Korean representatives showed up at the border.

US and North Korean officials were supposed to meet at the DMZ for negotiations Thursday, but the North Koreans never showed.

"I firmly believe that the strong will, honest efforts and unique approach of myself and Your Excellency Mr. President aimed at opening up a new future between the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea - the country's official name) and the U.S. will surely come to fruition", Kim wrote.

North Korea and the United States conducted joint operations to recover the remains of US soldiers from 1996 to 2005 but stopped when their relations soured as Pyongyang accelerated its nuclear program.

With his focus recently veering from nuclear weapons to economic growth, the North Korean leader, donning a white lab-coat style shirt and baggy grey pants, was fired-up as he berated bosses while wandering through a factory, power station and holiday camp, state media reported today.

Trump has come under fire from critics who argue that he lost all leverage with North Korea when he agreed to meet Kim in Singapore last month.

About 200 sets of remains are expected to be handed over to the UNC at the inter-Korean border.

Trump and Putin open historic summit, U.S. leader promises ‘extraordinary relationship’
Trump says he ran a "clean campaign" and he beat his Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton "easily". Trump said the summit would cover "everything from trade to military to missiles to nuclear to China".

Some 21 nations fought alongside the South Korean military during the three-year conflict as part of UN multinational forces.

Adding that he "believe (s) in" having meetings with Russia, China and North Korea, Trump said, "Nothing bad is going to come out of it, and maybe some good will come out".

In his latest remarks about Kim, Trump called him "very smart" and a "great personality" who was a "tough, good negotiator", adding he got "along with him great", in an interview with the United Kingdom publication Daily Mail published Saturday.

In late-June, the Washington Postreported that the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) had concluded that Pyongyang doesn't intend to fully abandon its nuclear weapons, while NBC reported that Pyongyang had actually boosted its production of enriched uranium for nuclear weapons.

Trump pointed out that he took a "different approach" in dealing with the North and there "have been no missile tests, no nuclear tests" in the last nine months.

The four-paragraph letter - an upbeat missive in which Kim voices hope in a "new future" and speaks of his "invariable trust" in Trump - is dated July 6, the day Secretary of State Mike Pompeo landed in North Korea for what turned out to be acrimonious talks with Kim's regime. Jong Un said, "I extend my conviction that the epochal progress in promoting the DPRK-US relations will bring our next meeting forward".

"We will be ready", she said.
