Sure Sounds Like Manny Machado Will Be Traded to the Dodgers Soon

REPORT Manny Machado Trade'Very Close

It is not yet known which team Machado will be traded to, but the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies have been invested in their pursuit of the All-Star shortstop.

Yesterday, ESPN's Buster Olney reported the Orioles had a deal in place, but it was not reported what team this was making a deal with the Orioles. The Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers were also in the conversation, but the Dodgers reportedly won out in the end.

The Dodgers emerged as the favorite to land Machado earlier this week.

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported the Machado trade was "happening", with 21-year-old Class AA outfielder Yusniel Diaz the centerpiece of the swap. Still, the night turned into one unlike any other in All-Star history, with a player taking the field knowing he nearly certainly would be wearing his team's uniform for the last time.

Corey Seager is out for the season after Tommy John surgery, which has left a void for the Dodgers at shortstop.

MLB Trade Rumors: Could Manny Machado Be Headed To Philly?
But while they have the third-lowest OPS in the NL at shortstop (.634), the biggest available infield bats are third basemen. When Manny Machado returns from the 2018 MLB All-Star Break, he will not be donning a Baltimore Orioles uniform.

Machado signed a one-year, $16 million contract for 2018 with Baltimore to avoid arbitration.

"I'm going to go out there, enjoy myself, keep playing". He has also won two Gold Glove awards in his seven-year Major League Baseball career.

Machado has been dealing with constant trade rumors since the start of spring training.

In 2015, Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said the Orioles would like to extend the then third baseman, but had "more urgent things to look at". Dating back to last season, it seemed like only a matter of time before a trade involving Machado finally happened, and since he's going to be a free agent in the offseason, the best option for the Orioles is obvious by trying to pull off a trade now.

"It's the worst", Machado said.
