Google Quietly Working on a Successor to Android

EU Commissioner Margrethe Vestager holds a press conference on a competition case involving Google Android at the European Commission building in Brussels Wednesday July 18. The European Union's antitrust chief has fined Google a record $5 billion for

European regulators on Wednesday levied a record $5 billion antitrust fine against the company for using the mobile software to spread its services. The U.S. imposed tariffs on European Union steel and aluminum this year, and the European Union responded with duties on American goods.

Reacting to the European Union ruling, Google's CEO Sundar Pichai in a lengthy blog post said that "the decision rejects the business model that supports Android, which has created more choice for everyone, not less". "I told you so!"

The general public has already abandoned its trust in Google and other tech companies due to their collection and misuse of user data. Vestager's latest Google ruling should be just a first step, not an isolated attack on one USA company for something others do, too.

This isn't the first fine levied on Google by the European Commission.

From more than two years a team of 100 engineers at Google have secretly been working on the successor to Android, which is the next level operating system that powers three quarters of the world's smartphones, according to a report.

While Google can afford the fine, the ruling could hurt the company's business model, which relies on giving away its operating system in return for opportunities to sell ads and other products. There are also internal concerns regarding security and ad sales: Google's ad business now relies on targeting users based on location and activity, which Fuschia's security features would likely block, Bloomberg noted.

On Alpe d'Huez, Froome was jeered at and spat on, and one spectator was later arrested for trying to push him off his bike. Vincenzo Nibali, meanwhile, was not so lucky, as he crashed into a motorbike.

Unsurprisingly, a lot of people have an opinion not only about the way Google has acted, but also of the European commission's ruling itself.

As previously reported "FACTS", Google was fined in the European Union at 4.3 billion euros for the violation of the Antimonopoly legislation in the case associated with Android operating system.

KitGuru Says: Although this is seemingly a controversial opinion, the repercussions of the EC's decision is likely to benefit both Android users and Google in the long run, as proven by China's diverse market without the Play Store.

Techies refer to this tactic as Google bombing, which is simply the practice of causing a website to rank highly in web search engine results for irrelevant, unrelated or off-topic search terms by linking heavily.

"Google has used Android as a vehicle to cement the dominance of its search engine", said Vestager.
