Max Meyer set to earn £170k-a-week at Crystal Palace

West Ham United's Cheikhou Kouyate challenges Ipswich Town's Tristan Nydam during the match between Ipswich Town and West Ham United at Portman Road

Meyer will offer a more attacking threat from central midfield, replacing Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who spent last season on loan at Palace but has returned to his parent club, Chelsea.

On Thursday, Crystal Palace announced the signing of highly-rated Schalke midfielder Max Meyer on a free transfer.

Arsenal have missed out on the chance to sign Max Meyer this summer, with the German global set to sign for Crystal Palace.

Indeed, in attempting to brief their fans about their new star signing, the official Eagles website ran with a photo not of Meyer, but of fellow German youngster Joshua Kimmich instead...

He will earn a reported £80k per week at Palace, less that what the club were paying Yohan Cabaye. I can't wait to start training with the team and I hope I'll have a good season.

Meyer managed to score 22 times in 192 appearances for the German club, while also making four appearances for his country.

Republicans won't budge on Kavanaugh documents amid Dem accusations of hiding records
However, it should be possible to get the documents to Senators much more quickly than the Archives review process permits. Taylor Foy, a spokesman for Grassley, said the senator still expects the hearing to take place in September.

"I'm proud to be here and I hope I can make the next step in my career", he said.

Meyer is due to have a medical at Palace on Tuesday and is set to become the second free agent to join the club this summer after Vicente Guaita joined from Getafe.

"I have good memories of West Ham but I need to come here and give my best because I like the Crystal Palace project".

The 22-year-old had a relatively quiet season last term, but has earned his wonderkid status over the past five seasons he has played for Schalke.

He helped them to finish as runners-up in last season's Bundesliga.

He progressed into the full Germany national side in 2014 and has gone on to win four caps, scoring his maiden worldwide goal against Finland in August 2016.
