German couple convicted for selling son online for sex

The couple are seen with their lawyers

The sickening abuse lasted for more than two years, the Freiburg state court heard this week.

Her partner, Christian L, 39, was also sentenced to 12 years.

Case psychiatrist, Hartmut Pleines, quoted by Spiegel news, said the mother's claim that she was in thrall to her partner when she committed the abuse, was false.

Christian, 39, the boy's stepfather, must remain in preventive custody after serving his sentence.

They were sentenced to prison in a case that has horrified the country.

A German couple who sold their son on the internet to be raped and filmed by multiple paedophiles have each been jailed for at least 12 years.

The twisted pair and six others were part of a pedophile ring that was busted past year following an anonymous tip.

Five other men have also been prosecuted in connection with the abuse.

The court said the pair met at a food bank in Staufen, near Freiburg, in late 2014.

Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic dispute with Canada
There could be a sentiment among allies that, "Finally the Trudeau government is getting poked back in the eye by the Saudis". In response, the Saudi government has expelled Canada's ambassador from the country and frozen all new trade with Canada.

The stepfather has a previous conviction for paedophilia, the AFP reported.

The boy, who was nine when the trial began in June, was repeatedly sexually abused by Spanish paedophile Javier Gonzalez Diaz.

A Swiss citizen and three German men who also abused the boy, now aged 10, were jailed between eight to ten years.

The mother was often near the scene of the abuse by other men "to exert a calming influence on her child", and in the case of one client participated herself, the court said.

Video footage catalogued the horror of the boy's abuse, which included him being tied up and subjected to verbal humiliation.

The couple must now pay €42,500 (£38,000; $49,200) in damages to the boy and to a three-year-old girl, who was also abused by them.

Local authorities have been accused of failing to protect the boy from his abusive parents, after officials removed him from his home, but returned him back weeks later.

The boy was taken out of the family home in March a year ago, but was sent back weeks later by a local court.
