President Trump appears to change his story about meeting

Trump attacks report that he’s worried about son’s exposure to Mueller inquiry

One part of Mueller's inquiry and congressional investigations has focused on a meeting months before the November election in Trump Tower in NY between Russian officials, Donald Trump Jr., the president's eldest son, and other campaign aides.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) told Fox News Sunday that he believes if special counsel Robert Mueller actually had any incriminating evidence on President Donald Trump or his campaign colluding with Russians to interfere in the 2016 presidential election that "it would have been leaked by now".

He continued: "This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere".

The U-turn was the USA president's clearest acknowledgement that the June 2016 meeting was aimed at getting damaging information on his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

Donald Trump rounded on a report on Sunday that he is anxious about son Donald Trump Jr's exposure to special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia-collusion investigation.

Trump's admission that his son's 2016 Russian meeting was to get information on Clinton runs counter to the narrative he has previously pushed about the meeting.

However, he subsequently admitted he had agreed to the meeting after being told he would be offered information that would prove detrimental to Mrs Clinton.

It was later reported that was false and the president was involved in constructing his son's misleading statement.

The Trump Tower meeting also included Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and his campaign chairman at the time, Paul Manafort, who is on trial over tax and bank fraud charges after being indicted by Mueller. Federal campaign finance law makes it illegal for a campaign to accept a "thing of value", such as a financial contribution, from foreign nationals.

TMZ: NASCAR CEO Brian France arrested for DUI in NY
France was arraigned Monday Morning at Sag Harbor Village Justice Court and was released on his own recognizance. First, here's the public story, as told by the Sag Harbor Village Police Department statement obtained by ESPN .

CNN reported last month that Michael Cohen, the president's long-time personal lawyer and self-described "fixer" was willing to tell Mueller that Trump did know about the meeting in advance.

At that time, Russian officials were under USA sanctions.

United States commentators have argued that Mr Trump's new admission that the meeting was to gain information about Mrs Clinton shows that the earlier statement was misleading.

But on Sunday, Trump tweeted the meeting discussed information and getting dirt on his election opponent, Hillary Clinton.

Later White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders had said the president weighed in, but didn't dictate a statement released in July 2017 on the meeting, which said the get-together was focused on Russian adoptions.

"I had bad information at that time and made a mistake in my statement", Sekulow said.

Mueller would have the option to issue a subpoena compelling the president to testify if Trump chose not to be interviewed.

In one tweet, he declared the media the "Enemy of the People" and accused outlets of sowing division and distrust. Trump wrote. "They are very unsafe & sick!"

In an interview on ABC News' "This Week", Sekulow cited the president's most recent post calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to "stop this rigged witch hunt", saying it is well within Trump's constitutional rights.
