Another strong quake hits Indonesia's Lombok, witnesses say buildings have collapsed

Lombok has been hit by another earthquake

"Our hearts go out to the people affected by the natural disaster".

The Indonesian island of Lombok was shaken by a third big natural disaster in little more than a week Thursday as an official said the death toll from an earlier quake had topped 220.

The official death toll stands at 131, but local media are reporting figures as high as 347.

Rescue workers look for survivors of Sunday's quake on the Indonesian island of Lombok.

The aftershock comes just four days after a devastating 6.9-magnitude natural disaster struck Lombok, which relief agencies said had wiped out entire villages in the worst-hit regions in the north and west.

Over 100 people were killed in the quake last Sunday and thousands of people were left homeless.

Authorities are still searching through the rubble left behind on Lombok Island, still hoping to find survivors.

The military said that five planes carrying food, medicine, blankets, field tents and water tankers left Jakarta for the island early on Wednesday.

Local authorities, global relief groups and the central government have begun organising aid, but shattered roads have slowed efforts to reach survivors in the mountainous north and east of Lombok, which bore the brunt of the quake.

'We have limited human resources.

"The scale of this quake is massive for us here in West Nusa Tenggara, this is our first experience".

A spokesman for the Musholla As-Syuhada mosque told BBC News Indonesian that worshippers heard sounds from "the ceiling and the roof like it was going to fall, so we ran".

"We still have supplies for the next few days, but I'm not sure about after that", Billa Rabbani, a spokeswoman from the Peduli Anak orphanage, told AFP.

A green and yellow dome rested on the pile of rubble, the only part of the structure still intact.

Some villages had "completely collapsed", said a Red Cross official in Lombok, Christopher Rassi.
