Tsitsipas set up match point with a scorching cross-court victor before completing the victory in 2 hours, 17 minutes.

Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece celebrates on his way to defeating Novak Djokovic of Serbia during Rogers Cup tennis tournament action in Toronto on Thursday August 9, 2018.

The World No.27 is through to the first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 quarter-final of his career. 'I do remember when I played Djokovic, I was able to get to the point, and I was able to construct points the way I wanted to. "I did some things that he didn't expect me to do".

Tsitsipas would not be brushed aside, though, and a huge shot down the line sealed an early break in the third, before fighting back in a sublime hold that prompted Djokovic to smash his racket.

The 19-year-old who has been on fire also reached the fourth of the Wimbledon championships this year only to lose to American John Isner.

China Paper Rebuts Trade War Criticism, Says "An Elephant Can't Hide"
Beijing sent another warning shot to Washington on Thursday, with its state media accusing the USA of "mobster mentality". As Upstream went to press, the ministry announced a 25% tariff on a $16 billion-worth of USA goods including crude oil .

'I knew I was playing pretty good today, ' a delighted Tsitsipas said.

Heavy morning rain delayed the match by about an hour. "I just patiently waited for the moment and it happened". But as I said, I didn't feel the ball at all. But I think one is good to give away to a top player, but two is, in my opinion, pushing it'.

His trademark retrieving skills were on display throughout the match but Tsitsipas used strong groundstrokes to push the pace and force Djokovic to fully stretch on several rallies.

"Yeah, well, I mean, I must admit it was exciting, but it was also unusual because, you know, he's a top player", he said.

In the doubles quarterfinals, the top-seeded duo of Austria's Oliver Marach and Croatia's Mate Pavic edged Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands and Romania's Horia Tecau 6-7 (5), 7-5, 10-6.

Play continues through Sunday at the US$5.94-million tournament.

Tsitsipas will next face second seed Alexander Zverev, who breezed past Daniil Medvedev 6-3 6-2.
