Welbeck tested in makeshift left-back role for Arsenal

Unai Emery admits Bernd Leno must wait for his chance after Petr Cech started in goal for Arsenal's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

While others bemoaned their lack of signings and questioned their club hierarchy's pre-season preparations, most notably Guardiola's nemesis in the red half of Manchester Jose Mourinho, the Catalan had nothing but praise for his squad and his employers, saying: "I can not complain for one minute".

Although Emery failed to record a victory against Guardiola during that four-year period, his tactical approach often caused serious problems in the first halves of matches. A full list of TV coverage from around the world can be found here.

Alexandre Lacazette was introduced ten minutes into the second half to add a fresher impetus up front, a different target for the likes of Ozil, Ramsey and Henrikh Mikhitaryan to find. Here are the player ratings from the 2-0 loss.

With Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal both ruled out through injury, Danny Welbeck was trialled by Emery at left-back in the build-up to Sunday's game at Emirates Stadium.

The Frenchman was involved in one of his side's more awkward moments midway through the first half, though.

Turkey is a 'target of economic war', says Erdogan
Erdogan reportedly was defiant, telling worshipers after Friday prayers that Turkey "will not lose the economic war". On Friday, he said the country had to take steps in answer "to those who have waged an economic war against us".

"We wanted to show our performance but it is clear against Manchester City we could not give them this win. I repeat: organised, then play". Well, in Hazard's absence from the Chelsea starting line up at Huddersfield on Saturday, summer signing Jorginho got the chance to prove he also has nerves of steel.

"We spoke about this before the game. they know they can do it".

Emery, meanwhile, will know he has much to do, even before a hard derby with Chelsea next weekend.

"Today is the first step". This was another fine driving performance from the 23-year-old; he constantly found space between defence and midfield, dropping into risky areas and linking the play. And the team for 90 minutes, they ran, they tried, they pushed, but I think we need to improve [everything], collectively and also individually.

"Petr Cech is one of the best goalkeepers we've ever seen in the Premier League but he struggles with the ball at his feet", noted Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher afterwards.
