Tsitsipas did then eked out a set point on the Nadal serve which the Spaniard saved with the help of a net cord.

Nadal went down 15-40 after throwing in a double fault, giving Tsitsipas two shots at breaking back.

"This shows that with dedication and work, dreams do come true", Tsitsipas said.

The young, ambitious tennis player said he "had a goal from when I was a child, I had dreams from young and I want to achieve all of them as an adult". "Obviously I'm sad I lost, but losing to the number one player isn't too bad".
