'Elba, Idris Elba': Star's tweet stokes James Bond rumours

Daniel Craig

Apparently, the article said, the 45-year-old "Luther" star is in the running to play the titular role if the actor now playing Bond, Daniel Craig, retires from the part.

But while some fans might have taken that as a hint that Elba, 45, would someday don Bond's tuxedo, he followed up hours later with a photo of Public Enemy and another tweet name-checking one of the group's most well-known songs.

Idris Elba has posted a cryptic tweet, fuelling speculation he could be the next James Bond.

People are once again buzzing about the prospect of Idris Elba playing James Bond.

Elba, 45, made his name in gritty United States television drugs drama "The Wire" and won a Golden Globe for his role as a murder detective in "Luther", before moving to the big screen.

1,600 evacuated as flash floods threaten camp sites
The French weather service has issued orange and yellow alerts for parts of southeast France that will remain in place until 4pm. It's been advised that locals give time for flood waters to recede, and keep an eye on local weather reports before they travel.

In a report from the United Kingdom publication The Daily Star, director Antoine Fuqua says that Broccoli believes it is time to diversify the role and that if it does not happen now, "it will happen eventually".

Fuqua told The Daily Star,"Idris could do it if he was really tight and in shape".

"When Sean Connery stepped into the scene he was a rough old dude".

His tweet was retweeted thousands of times by excited followers. Is he just feeling some old school hip hop this morning?

Elba is best known for TV dramas such as The Wire and Luther, as well as a minor role in the Marvel comic book franchise. "I dunno, sounds good to me", he told CNN at the time.
