Florida man charged with manslaughter in 'stand your ground' case

Killed Markeis in cold blood:’ Florida man charged with manslaughter in ‘stand your ground’ case

Surveillance footage shows McGlockton walking out of the store and shoving Drejka to the ground.

According to the arrest warrant, viewed by the Times, police noted Mr McGlockton had immediately stepped back "when confronted with the firearm" and turned away from Mr Drejka.

Alleged shooter Michael Drejka, 47, was taken into custody on Monday, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. He later died at a nearby hospital.

Deputies said Drejka - a licensed concealed-carry permit-holder - cooperated with them from the outset.

"Consistent with the decision-making process established under Florida law in this case, the State Attorney conducted his review and chose to charge Drejka with manslaughter", Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said in a news release.

Markeis McGlockton (left, standing) was shot dead by Michael Drejka (kneeling) outside a store following a dispute about a parking spot. His bond had been set at $100,000.

They pointed out that the video shows McGlockton retreating from Drejka after he pushed the man down in an effort to protect Jacobs and his children. "This self-appointed wannabe cop attempted to hide behind "Stand Your Ground" to defend his indefensible actions, but the truth has finally cut through the noise".

McGlockton, 28, shoved Drejka to the ground and then was shot and killed when Drejka, from a sitting position, pulled out a gun he legally owned and opened fire.

Sevilla threaten to pull out of Spanish Super Cup tie
However, Barcelona struck just before half-time after a free-kick by Messi hit the post before Gerard Pique converted the rebound. Sevilla qualified for the match as last season's Copa del Rey runners-up, after Barcelona won the league and cup double.

The law was changed previous year to put the burden of proof on prosecutors to disprove a stand your ground claim, instead of on the defense to prove one.

Some social activists suggested race played a role in the sheriff's decision - McGlockton is black and Drejka is white - but Gulatieri vehemently denied those accusations.

As of noon, Drejka was being booked into the Pinellas County Jail.

The news release included a statement from the sheriff supporting the arrest.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri declined to press charges against Drejka, saying, "I didn't make the law, and I do not do what people want because of outrage. I have full faith that this truth will prevail to punish this cold-blooded killer who angrily created the altercation that led to Markeis' needless death", Crump continued.

Zimmerman said he thought Martin might be a burglar casing homes. "We will continue to fight until justice is brought for the family of Markeis McGlockton".

Mr McGlockton's family said in a statement that the arrest was "a small measure of comfort in our time of profound mourning", U.S. media reported.

"This is a big step forward in the direction of justice, not only for Markeis' family but also for society as a whole", Rayner said in a statement. The charge seems appropriate given what we know about the facts of the case.
