Spain festival collapse in Vigo injures dozens

Hundreds of people have been injured, five of them seriously, after a wooden platform collapsed at a music festival in north-west Spain.

Radio Galega said 266 people were injured at the O Marisquino festival in Vigo, a town in the Galicia region.

People had to fight to get out of the water and climb out from under one another. "A boy gave me his hand in the end and I got out".

"There were people underneath me, shouting they couldn't get out". "People fell on me".

"It was the worst moment of my life", said Andres, a young man who was in the VIP area, telling El Faro de Vigo he saw "people crying, others running". "I tried to get out and someone helped me".

Vigo's mayor, Abel Caballero, told reporters "the causes have yet to be determined" and that it didn't appear anyone remained trapped under the debris, per the Telegraph.

In a tweet, Rels B wished "strength" to the injured and advised anyone anxious about friends or relatives to contact an emergency information point set up by festival organizers.

"The president of the city's port authority said he suspects structural problems were behind the collapse", Benavides reports.

The annual festival, which bills itself as the "most important urban sports event in southern Europe", draws some 160,000 people to Vigo, a city of around 300,000 residents. The drama happened at the start of the last day of the three-day festival, which is in its 18th year.
