Spurs open campaign with win over Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino was full of praise for Harry Kane even though he failed to get on the scoresheet in a 2-1 win at Newcastle United.

England's skipper and Golden Boot victor at this year's World Cup was defended by Pochettino who said: " For me, he's in his best form.

"To be fair, all the players came back in good condition and we had some outstanding performances from those who've been away at the World Cup", he said.

Here at Vital Newcastle, we have a new feature this season, our Player Rating widget which enables you, quickly, to rate each player.

"We can do better, of course, and be more consistent but it was a massive challenge to connect everything and prepare in the few days we had".

Pochettino will make late decisions over the involvement of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris as they lack match practice having arrived late for pre-season training following the World Cup.

"The players that are out of the squad are because the same situation, are all in the condition to train".

"Everyone else, back here at Tottenham we got to the [FA Cup] semifinal previous year but we need to go that one step further and win".

Brazilian Ronaldo In Intensive Care In Ibiza Hospital
Staff at Can Misses Hospital said they were unable to give out any information for " data protection reasons ". He won the Golden Ball at the 1998 World Cup and the Golden Boot four tears later as the Selecao triumphed.

"We deserved at least a draw, we were fighting until the end and had chances in the second half", the Spaniard said.

Fellow semi-finalist Jan Vertonghen and World Cup victor Hugo Lloris also make an appearance as Pochettino opts against easing some of his star men back into action.

However, just 149 seconds later, the hosts restored parity through Joselu.

Alli put the visitors back in front, timing a back-post run to perfection to meet Serge Aurier's cross with a textbook header past home goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko could find himself facing a three-match Premier League ban for violent conduct, according to the Sun, after clashing with Newcastle United midfielder Kennedy, last weekend.

"There were a lot of positives to see the team fighting. We conceded and reacted well, and then showed good fight", the Newcastle coach said.

"I told you [the other day] that numerous players returned in a good condition", Pochettino said.
