Man arrested, pedestrians injured as car hits barriers at UK parliament

Cyclists were injured when the man drove his car into security barriers outside the House of Parliament

Armed police raced to Westminster after a auto crashed into the security barriers at the Houses of Parliament.

Police have also arrested the male driver, though no further details were provided.

"Officers remain at the scene".

Last week, a Muslim convert admitted plotting to kill more than 100 people by driving a truck into pedestrians on London's Oxford Street, the capital's major shopping thoroughfare.

"We're kind of stuck waiting to hear from our bosses what to do", she said.

Exacerbating the problem is that orcas do not have babies often or in large numbers, and when they do, it is a long process. There hasn't been a successful birth among the southern resident killer whales in three years.

Images posted to social media showed a man in handcuffs being led away from the auto by officers.

Journalists in the area say the crash "looked intentional" and that the auto was driven into the security barrier "at speed".

She said: "I was walking on the other side [of the road]. I turned around and I saw a silver vehicle driving very fast close to the railings, maybe even on the pavement", she said.

Westminster Underground station, close to parliament, was closed and the building cordoned off.

The vehicle involved, a small silver hatchback, could be seen smashed into a security barrier at a vehicle security checkpoint in the parliament perimeter fence. Masood then stabbed an unarmed police officer.

In 2017, 52-year-old Briton Khalid Masood rammed his vehicle into pedestrians on the pavement along the south side of the Westminster Bridge, injuring more than 50 people and killing five.
