'Thank you, good luck and farewell' - David Silva announces Spain retirement

Manchester City midfielder David Silva has retired from international football

As well as winning the 2010 World Cup, Silva was part of Spain's title-winning teams at the 2008 and 2012 European Championships.

Silva played in the Spain national team since 2006.

The Spain worldwide has been an integral part of City's success, scoring 61 goals and providing 115 assists in 346 appearances to help the club win three league titles, an FA Cup and three League Cups since his arrival 2010.

Silva who now plays for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, and made his Spanish debut in 2006, said he was "very proud" and the decision to retire was "one the most hard of my career".

He wrote: "It isn't easy, after everything I have gone through, to sit down and write these words".

Important thing is how well Woods has played, says Ryder Cup captain
For the second consecutive major, significant points were up for grabs, but no player from outside the top 8 moved in. Thomas Pieters, who played well in the 2016 defeat, shot back to prominence with a sixth-place finish at the US PGA .

"The national team has given me everything and has allowed me to grow as a player and a person even throughout the youth teams", Silva, now a three-time Premier League champion with City, continued. "I lived and dreamed with a team which will be remembered forever; and I am bringing an end to an era filled with many moments which will live in my memory, such as the figure of Luis Aragones, a teacher I will never forget". "I would like to thank my teammates, all of the coaches who believed in me and the staff of the RFEF who have always strived to make life easy for us".

"Thank you, good luck and farewell!".

Gran Canaria-born Silva was making his name as a creative force at Valencia when he was first called up to the senior team in November 2006 and he scored the first of his 35 worldwide goals against Greece in August 2007.

Silva will now focus exclusively on his City duties, with Pep Guardiola's side aiming to successfully defend their Premier League title.
